From Pain to Purpose: Building a New Future for Emotional Wellbeing
As a child growing up in a home shadowed by domestic violence, Tenille Bentley asked a question no child should ever have to ask:
"Why do people treat each other like this?"
At just 10 years old, in the midst of another violent storm, that seed of curiosity was planted. A question that would spark a lifelong journey—not just of survival, but of understanding.
Not just of resilience, but of transformation.
Years later, after building a global organisation—the Global Good Foundation—that reached over 40,000 children across five countries impacted by domestic violence, Tenille realised something profound:
Support after trauma is vital. But prevention is everything.
The patterns of hurt, disconnection, and emotional shutdown begin long before adulthood. If we want to change the future, we must start at the roots—where emotional understanding begins.
The core issue wasn’t just what people did—it was whether they ever learned how to manage their emotions at all.
And so, ELMA—The Emotional Literacy & Mindfulness Academy—was born.
A vision to change the way we raise, teach, and empower children, educators, families, and workplaces.
Grounded in neuroscience and built on the wisdom of lived experience, ELMA’s programs teach emotional intelligence not as a luxury, but as a life skill. A skill that could break cycles of hurt, build stronger human connection, and cultivate resilience in a generation that desperately needs it.
We created ELMA because emotional literacy is not optional.
It is the foundation for healing, thriving, and building a future where every child—and every adult—knows how to lead with empathy, resilience, and compassion.
When we teach the language of emotion early, we change lives for generations to come.
